What is a broker? 1

A broker is an intermediary between a client and the insurance company. Unlike insurance agents or insurance company sales representatives, brokers are independent: they are there to ensure respect for contract terms and to defend their clients’ rights when they are not respected. There is no more need to be in contact with the insurance company or speak Portuguese as the broker can handle everything from taking out a policy to managing a claim.

Choosing a broker means being assisted by an independent professional who knows the market well and will be able to advise you without any sales goal constraints.

How are we paid?

Contrary to popular belief, a broker’s main source of revenue is not comprised of insurance management fees.

Insurance companies pay a commission on contracts secured by brokers. There are 2 parts to this commission:

  • A sales commission paid the first year of the insurance contract
  • A renewal commission paid the following years

The rates we offer are always the same as those offered by the insurance companies through their other distribution channels (exclusive agents, direct sales via the Internet or by phone, etc.). And since we work with more than 20 companies, we can suggest the best offers at all times. We will let any of our clients know what we receive from their policy upon simple request.

Who is a broker for and why?

There are three reasons to use a broker’s services:

The first reason: Leaving the arduous comparative work up to a broker saves you a whole lot of time! Hours waiting on telephone calls, the different rate calculation platforms offered by each company and identifying the best offer... it’s really hard work!

Your personal INOV advisor answers your questions and contacts the insurance companies directly to find the offer that best meets your needs. If you wish to switch insurance companies one day, you will still be talking to the same person you trust who already knows you.

The second reason: Comparing is the key to success! Depending on the best market options, INOV Expat will always offer several quotes. We work with more than 20 insurance companies which makes it possible for us to always find the most well-suited solution.

The third reason: insurance systems are different from country to country... who better than some expatriates to understand and advise other expatriates? At INOV, we’re expatriates and understand not only your specific needs but also known how to guide you towards better understanding insurance in Portugal.

Don’t think twice. Entrust all your insurance needs to multilingual professionals who offer you competitive insurance policies that adapt to you and always guarantee the defence of your rights!
